“People take Europe for granted” – that is what Mary Kaldor a professor of global governance at the London School of Economics says about European citizens and young citizens particularly. The elections for the European Parliament traditionally have really low turnouts and for many people Europe is just invisible in their everyday lives. According to Kaldor, politicians in Europe have a tendency to justify unpopular decisions with “Europe” which does not really contribute to a stronger sense of belonging among European citizens. Moreover, Kaldor remarked that many people complain about too much bureaucracy in within their own democracies due to European laws. So how do we get especially the European youth to be more interested in democracy and the great idea of Europe?
So we went out to the European youth and asked them:
Why is democracy sexy?
