The suitcase is a faithful companion of many business travelers, but surprisingly simple equipped in most cases: Last year, a start-up came up with the idea of producing a suitcase of the 21st century.

The Blue Smart includes many features such as GPS and a large battery for charging smartphones. Another example of such a suitcase is the Bag2Go, which has been developed by T-Systems together with Rimowa and Airbus. According to rumors, the two big players Samsung and Samsonite are also working on such a smart suitcase. A confirmation of Samsung was not a long time in the coming. According to Samsung’s manager Ramesh Tainwala it is true that Samsung is working together with Samsonite on such a product.

At the same time, it should also be possible to determine the time at which the suitcase appears on the baggage carousel. The suitcase of Samsung and Samsonite should also be able to automatically check in at the airport. The annoying queues at the luggage counter would simply disappear.

This will be made possible thanks to the built-in GPS Tracker as well as due to a small scale, which measures the weight of the suitcase. The customer must this only put his luggage on a luggage carousel and ready. Samsung is also working on self-propelled suitcases that automatically follow their owner. Since the motor and other hardware are too big and bulky at the moment, they are currently focussing on a slightly less “smart” suitcase.

Regarding price and availability, Samsung remains silent, so it can still take a bit until the first smart suitcase travels over the counter. However, Samsung’s emphasis that customers will see the new product not only as a nice gimmick, but realize a benefit in everyday life.
